The community, state, and local officials gathered at the Bierhaus Center Historic Office Building in Vincennes to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the new Knox County Health Department.
Dr. Alan Stewart, Knox County’s Health Officer, spoke to the crowd about the new location and how it is now near other healthcare facilities.
The Bierhaus Center was a shuttered medical venue, it was eligible for ARPA funds which helped with renovations.
In Knox County, Stewart is looking to build what he called “continuity of care”.
That means starting health care before people know they need it and continuing it in an affordable, accessible, and seamless manner.
County Council President Harry Nolting, County Commissioner President Kellie Streeter, State Representative Bruce Borders, and Indiana’s Chief Medical Officer and soon-to-be Health Superintendent Lindsay Weaver all voiced their support of the new building.
Weaver believes Knox County is a great model of what public health should be.
The Health Department moved location in early January and has enjoyed its new bigger work space and hopes to continue to help the community for years to come.
