The first residents are moving into the new Bierhaus Flats apartment complex on Bierhaus Boulevard, marking a milestone for a housing project that broke ground one year ago this week.
The development includes 240 apartment units and represents a $35 million housing investment.
The first few units became move-in ready over the weekend. Property Manager Josh Wood said the first building is now nearly fully leased, with additional units expected to become available about every four to six weeks as construction continues.
The complex will include five apartment buildings with a mix of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. Rent ranges from $1075 for the one bedroom with 890 sq ft; $1375 for a 2 bedroom 2 bath with 1,120 sq ft; and, $1525 per month for a 3 bedroom 2 bath with 1,325 sq ft. Apartments include major appliances, washers and dryers, and internet service through an amenity package. The development also includes a fitness area for residents. Tenants must pay their own electric bill.
Wood said leasing activity increased in recent weeks after apartment tours began.
Local officials have previously identified housing as a challenge in Knox County. A county housing study found demand for additional rental units and housing options in the area.
KCIED CEO Chris Pfaff said the addition of new market-rate housing provides another option for professionals and families considering a move to Vincennes and Knox County. Pfaff said the project can help support efforts to attract and retain residents and workforce talent in the area.
Developers plan to make an additional 24 units available approximately every four weeks through early next year.
