The Knox County Commissioners on Tuesday voted 2-0 to rezone just over 10 acres along Sievers Road for single-family residential use. Commissioner Tim Ellerman the Second abstained, saying he wanted additional information about the differences between the existing and proposed zoning classifications.
The vote followed an extended period of public comment. Several nearby residents raised concerns about traffic, drainage and the density of a proposed 42-lot subdivision. Project engineer Jim Morley Junior, speaking on behalf of the property owner, said the development would provide additional housing near schools, shopping and existing sewer service.
In other action, commissioners also approved a $121,740 bid from E and B Paving to repair portions of Thompson Road, Coon Hunter Road and Old Bruceville Road. Trucks used the county roads while State Road 67 was closed for an Indiana Department of Transportation project near Bruceville. INDOT is expected to reimburse the county for the work.
A separate inspection will be conducted on Bridge Number 22 on Bruce Road to determine whether it sustained damage from the increased traffic. That inspection is expected to cost no more than $5,000 and will also be covered by INDOT.
