Vincennes University’s Shircliff Gallery of Art is wrapping up one exhibition Friday and preparing to open another next week.

A closing reception for visiting artist Tanmaya Bingham’s “Purple Angel” will be held Friday at noon as part of the gallery’s Lunch at the Gallery program. Bingham is expected to speak about her work beginning around 12:10.

“Purple Angel” is a large-scale mural made up of six interconnected panels examining political division between the country’s two major political parties.

The gallery’s next exhibition opens Wednesday, September 16. “History, Memory, Myth: The Confederate Monument in the American South” features work by artist Carlos Diaz.

The exhibition uses photographs and an installation to examine Confederate monuments, the public spaces they occupy and their role in shaping historical memory.

The Diaz exhibition continues through October 23, when the gallery will hold a closing reception and artist talk at noon.

Both exhibitions are at Vincennes University’s Shircliff Gallery of Art.
