Vincennes University Athletics, in partnership with Good Samaritan Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, is proud to host the second annual Blaze to a Community Cancer Cure, a fundraising initiative dedicated to supporting cancer research while providing direct assistance to individuals and families in the Vincennes community affected by cancer. Last year’s effort raised more than $5,000 towards the cause.

Blaze to a Community Cancer Cure is a VU Athletics–led effort that brings together student-athletes, coaches, staff, and fans to raise awareness and resources for cancer-related needs close to home. The event reflects the Trailblazer commitment to using athletics as a platform for service, compassion, and community impact.

The fundraiser will culminate on Saturday, February 14, at the VU P.E. Complex, featuring a basketball doubleheader on Good Samaritan Hospital Night with the Blazers:

·       2:00 PM — Women’s Basketball vs. Rend Lake College

·       4:00 PM — Men’s Basketball vs. Malcolm X College

Proceeds from ticket sales, donations, and special event merchandise—both leading up to and on game day—will directly support local families facing cancer-related challenges. A portion of the funds raised will also be designated for cancer research, treatment, and local support services.

Held on Valentine’s Day this year, Blaze to a Community Cancer Cure is rooted in something simple and meaningful: showing love through action. On a day often associated with cards and flowers, this event offers another expression of care—standing with neighbors, families, and friends whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Blaze to a Community Cancer Cure continues to be about more than a game or a single night. It is about community showing up, offering support, and reminding those facing cancer that they are not alone. Every ticket purchased, every donation made, and every voice in the stands helps turn compassion into meaningful impact—right here at home.

All donations benefit GSH Foundation, are greatly appreciated, and are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
