Candidate filings begin January 10th

2024 is a General Election year.

Knox County Clerk David Shelton reminds candidates that January 10th is the first day they can file to run.

There are several local county offices on the ballot this year including 3 Knox County Council At Large Seats, Knox County Commissioners in Districts 1 and 2  as well as the Knox County Treasurer and Coroner.

Some Knox County voters will also be voting for State Representatives in House Districts 45 and 64.

Indiana Governor, US Senator for Indiana and US House District 8 are also on the ballot.

There are also several school board seats in Knox County’s 3 public school districts up for election.

 

 


FULL NEWS RELEASE FROM THE KNOX COUNTY CLERK’S OFFICE

January 10th, 2024 is the first day a candidate may file to run for office this year.   Local offices on the ballot this year include Knox County Council, At-Large, (3 seats), Knox County Commissioner in Districts 1 and 2, Knox County Treasurer, and Knox County Coroner.   Also, on the Primary Ballot will be Republican Precinct Committeeman and both Republican and Democratic State Convention Delegates.

Other offices up for election this year include State Representatives from House District 45, (North Knox area), House District 64, (Vincennes, Wheatland area, and all of South Knox), Governor, US Representative, (CD-8), and United States Senator.

State Convention Delegates from both political parties will choose their party’s nomination for Lieutenant Governor as well as Attorney General.

Forms for candidacy for local office are available in the Knox County Clerk’s office.  Forms needed to file candidacy include the CAN-2, CAN-12, CFA-1 and the CFA-4 form-for later campaign finance reporting.   For candidates for Republican Precinct Committeeman and Republican and Democratic State Convention Delegates, the CAN-37 form is used.   If a candidate wants to run for both Precinct Committeeman and State Convention Delegate, as separate form must be used for each political office sought.  These forms may be filed from January 10th through noon on February 9th.

Area School Boards will have elections in November.   The candidate sign-up period for those begin on May 21st and end on June 20th, at noon.   There will be three at-large positions in the Vincennes Community School Corporation.  In North Knox, District C, (Vigo Township-outside of Bicknell), and District E, (Bicknell) are up for election this year.  In South Knox, District B (Johnson Township), District C, (Palmyra Township), and District E, (Harrison Township), will be on the ballot in November.  To be a candidate for school board, a person must be a registered voter of the district and obtain 10 signatures of registered voter from the  school district.
