The Greene County Humane Society based in Linton has announced a fundraising campaign for a new shelter building.

Plans for the shelter began in 2020 when new leadership took over the society.

A needs assessment study was conducted and after reviewing multiple designs, estimates, contingencies, it’s anticipated that a new shelter can be built for 2.5 million dollars.

The Humane Society has already raised initial funds and some work has been completed including a new septic system.

Much of the new building’s floor plan and design development drawings have been completed.

The shelter will be built in phases to take advantage of money saving opportunities as they arise.

The fundraising efforts include a virtual silent auction going on now as well as a donation portal on the society’s website.

In addition. calendars featuring Linton Police and Fire Department first responders and shelter pets are on sale with proceeds going toward the effort.
