VU Alum marks 50 year career

A Vincennes University Alum is marking 50 years in his chosen career.

Dr. Dennis Wissing gives VU all the credit for his proudest achievement of being a licensed respiratory therapist for half a century.

The Vincennes native is a member of VU’s first graduating class of respiratory therapists in 1976.

He served as a staff therapist in the Department of Respiratory Therapy between 1974 and 1976 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

Dr. Wissing says the says  VU’s program stimulated him to pursue his bachelor and master degrees and his Ph.D.  He added he attained a desire to learn and became a lifelong learner at VU.

Two years after graduating from VU, Wissing became the first student to earn a bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy from the University of Kansas. He received a master’s degree in Health Science Education from LSU Medical Center in New Orleans and a Ph.D. in Science Education from LSU Baton Rouge.

Wissing is currently the  Dean of the College of Education and Human Development at Louisiana State University in Shreveport
