The Vincennes Tourism Board will ask state lawmakers next month for an increase in the Inn-Keepers Tax.

City Council President Brian Grove told the council on Monday that the reason for a 2% increase is to pay for a new proposed outdoor sports complex to be used for soccer, pickle ball, tennis and other sports.

That 2% would be specifically designated to the new complex

Grove explained that the tax is one of the few taxes where people coming into the community pay.

If the state gives it’s approval, it’s the Knox County Council  that would have to approve and collect the increase locally.

The move would raise the local In Keepers tax to 8%.

The City Council and Mayor agreed to send a letter supporting the proposal.
