Knox County officials have scrapped a proposed purchase of a downtown building.

The Knox County Commissioners announced this week they won’t pursue buying the Old National Bank building at Busseron and 3rd Streets.

Back in February the Commissioners and Knox County Council held a joint session discussing interest in buying the building as part of a plan to reorganize where some government offices would be re-located.

At this week’s Commissioners meeting, Commissioner Trent Hinkle explained that after  an engineering study was completed, it was determined that although there is nothing wrong with the property, the building would not be a good fit for county government.

Hinkle added that the consensus was that it would be best to use property the county already owns to help solve issues with current space needs.
