The focus on the total solar eclipse will continue into late spring in Vincennes with the Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous.
Rendezvous President Tom Gillingham announced today that the year’s theme of the Memorial Day Weekend event at the French Commons in Vincennes will be the Eclipse of 1806.
The plan is to tie the celebration of the newest eclipse event in April to the historic context of the Rendezvous historical period.
In June of 1805 a total solar eclipse crossed our region of the US.
It’s occurrence surrounded a legendary story concerning the then Governor of the Indiana Territory William Henry Harrison and Native Americans Tecumseh and his brother known as “The Prophet”
It was also announced today that new volunteers for the 2024 Rendezvous are being recruited.
This is the 47th annual Rendezvous weekend.
Interested persons can attend the next monthly planning meeting which will next Tuesday.
Potential volunteers can also sign up on the volunteer tap at spiritofvincennes.org.
Food booth space is still available for this year and there’s more information available on that by calling 812-257-5800 or emailing krb762@aol.com.
