Low local turnout for Primary Election Day

Voter turnout in Knox County was light.

Less than 27% of the over 22,000 registered voters cast a ballot.

When the returns came in, the results showed that 3 of the 4 candidates vying to staying in office won their primaries.

For Knox County Coroner, Joe Milspaugh Junior won his race against challenger Kira Dent.  The vote counts was 2,806 to 1824. Milspaugh-junior had just over 60% of the vote.

It was a tight race for County Commissioner District 1 with incumbent T-J Brink finishing with 2,320 votes while challenger Cher Wehrman had 2,235.  That’s a 50.93% to 49.07% difference.

In County Commissioner District 2, Trent Hinkle ran for re-election against Tim Ellerman II and Pam Hazel.  Ellerman upset the incumbent, garnering 2,065 votes… Hazel was second, with 1,423 while Hinkle was last with 1,226.  Ellerman had 43.8% of the vote.

In the County Council At-Large Race the top 3 vote getters in the 7 person race were Kevin Meyer with 2,939 votes or just over 25%.   Incumbent Dan Reitmeyer finished with 2,506 or 21.4% and Jon Hillenbrand had 2,103 votes or 17.9%

Reitmeyer was thankful for the win….

Hillenbrand was also pleased with how the nigh turned out…

 

Rounding out the race were Tony McCarter, followed by Brett Dawson, Michael Jacob and Deaton grove.

The winning candidates will move on to the general election in November and are currently unopposed.

If that doesn’t change, they will take office in January of 2025.

However as previously reported, candidates from other parties have until June 29 to file to be on the November ballot.
