The City of Vincennes has awarded construction bids for its new firefighter training center, though no start date for the work has been set.

The Board of Works approved four contracts Monday, including $48,480 to Hendrickson Concrete and Construction for foundation work. Wabash Utilities received three contracts: nearly $41,000 for storm and sanitary lines, over $18,000 for a concrete entrance, and just under $11,000 for building utilities.

The lowest site-clearing bids were rejected, with that work expected to be done in-house.

The center is being funded by the state and is part of a statewide effort to expand live fire training opportunities.

In other action in city government on Monday, the Vincennes City Council has unanimously approved the third and final reading of an ordinance which vacates a portion right-of-way on Buntin Street. The change will allow for proper setback requirements related to a building project and is not expected to negatively impact city infrastructure. The council previously held a public hearing on the ordinance with no public comments. The measure passed 6–0 in each of its three readings.

Also Monday night, the Vincennes City Council passed the first reading of Ordinance 6-2025, which proposes changing the zoning of a property at 1420 Hart Street from C1 commercial to R1 residential. Council members noted the property was previously residential and that the change aligns with surrounding zoning. That ordinance now heads to the Area Plan Commission before returning to the council for further readings.
