A sensory-friendly tour of Vincennes University’s TV and radio stations will take place this  Saturday, May 3, at Davis Hall.

The event is designed to provide a more inclusive experience for individuals who may be sensitive to loud sounds, bright lights, or large crowds. Organizers say the environment will be calm, with limited sensory stimulation, and the tour will be broken into smaller groups to prevent overcrowding.

“It’s open and welcome to everyone,” says Vincennes PBS Education and Community Outreach Coordinator Allyson Bowers.  “Sensory-friendly just means there won’t be bright lights or loud sounds. If a child has specific sensory needs, there’s a space on the registration form to let us know.”

She hopes this event inspires more organizations in the Vincennes area to consider sensory-friendly options in the future, even if it’s just reserving a quieter time slot at the beginning or end of an event.

“This isn’t just for kids with autism,” she added. “Any child can get overwhelmed by crowds, noise, or stimulation. Knowing there’s a calm space available can make a big difference.”

The tour begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and is open to all ages. Attendees will be able to try out a green screen, hear themselves in a podcast studio, and explore the stations at their own pace.
