Construction is advancing on a major expansion to the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy at Vincennes University.
In August of 2023 it was announced that the Skelton Estate had pledged four million dollars to the VU Foundation to create the Lothian and Red Skelton Gallery of Fine Art in honor of Red Skelton. Ground was broken the following October.
Executive Director Anne Pratt says the project is moving forward with daily visible changes. Electricians are now working inside, and HVAC systems are being installed. Stud walls are up, allowing visitors to see the layout of the new space.
The museum entrance is also being remodeled to include a new foyer door, although the temporary boarding has made it appear closed. Pratt emphasizes the museum remains open six days a week and will begin seven-day operations in June.
“We have our big museum open flag down by the curb and signage to help people find their way inside,” Pratt said.
While slightly behind schedule, the project is still on track to open in November.
Admission remains $9 for adults, with discounts for seniors, military, and students.
