Law enforcement agencies across the region are warning residents not to fall for a scam text claiming to be from the Indiana Department of Vehicles, which is an agency that does not exist.
The message threatens license suspension and legal action unless a traffic ticket is paid by this Friday and includes a suspicious web link.
Authorities warn it’s a scam. Indiana does not have a Department of Vehicles—it’s called the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. That’s one of the first red flags.
Also legitimate agencies do not send payment demands by text. If you get a such a message officials advise to just delete it.
