Indiana’s unemployment rate held steady at 3.6% for June, staying below the national rate of 4.1%.
The state’s labor force participation rate was 63.7%, higher than the national average of 62.3%. That figure reflects the number of Hoosiers working or actively looking for work out of everyone 16 and older.
Total private employment dropped slightly in June by 3,900 jobs, but some industries saw gains. Professional and business services added 1,000 jobs, followed by increases in education and health services, and trade, transportation, and utilities.
As of the end of June, more than 86,000 job openings were posted statewide. And just over 20,000 Hoosiers were receiving unemployment benefits as of early July.
Looking at the county numbers, Knox County checked in 3.8% unemployment. Gibson County has 3.1%, Daviess and Dubois both have 3%. Pike and Sullivan sit at 3.5%, Greene is at 3.8.
