The Illinois State Police says a new law will strengthen the state’s response to human trafficking.Senate Bill 2323 creates the Illinois Statewide Trauma-Informed Response to Human Trafficking Act — setting prevention and intervention strategies and standards for survivor support across multiple agencies.

Governor JB Pritzker says the effort will better identify, protect, and assist victims statewide.

In fiscal year 2024, the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority reported 448 survivors received services through domestic violence or sexual assault agencies. That same year, the Department of Children and Family Services received 213 possible reports of child trafficking.

Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly says the law ensures a victim-centered, statewide approach to address forced labor and commercial sex trafficking.
