The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public of a decades-old cold case.
In July of 1994, the body of 33-year-old Rita Buffington of Bloomfield was found at Shake Lake #2 in the Greene-Sullivan State Forest near Pleasantville. She had last been seen on July 27, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators questioned two Greene County men, including a former roommate who frequented the lake, but no charges were ever filed.
Today would have been Buffington’s 65th birthday. Authorities are again asking anyone with information about the case to contact Indiana State Police or the Greene or Sullivan County Sheriff’s Offices.
