Knox County Chief Deputy John Fuller is warning residents about yet another phone scam — this time, the callers are using his name.

The scammers claim to be Fuller, give out a fake citation code, and demand six thousand dollars be paid at a bitcoin kiosk on Washington Avenue. They threaten that a warrant will be issued and the victim arrested if payment isn’t made.

The Sheriff’s Office says no deputy will ever call to demand money. If you get a call like this, hang up immediately and report it to 812-882-1502.

Officials say the scammers are also spoofing caller ID to make the call appear genuine. Victims report the callers speak quickly, in broken English, with a foreign accent — something deputies say no one in their office does.
