Good Samaritan Chief Operating Officer Adam Thacker outlined major upgrades and ongoing challenges in regional healthcare during Tuesday’s State of Healthcare luncheon at Vincennes University.

The program hosted by the Knox County Chamber of Commerce.

Thacker highlighted investments in technology, expanded residency programs, and new digital tools aimed at supporting caregivers and improving patient access. He said these changes are designed to keep advanced services close to home and help staff manage rising patient volumes.

The luncheon also featured the Indiana Hospital Association’s Laura Brown, who discussed the policy pressures facing healthcare providers statewide. Brown said hospitals are closely watching decisions made at both the state and federal levels, as reimbursement formulas and regulatory changes continue to shape how facilities operate.

“Indiana hospitals are feeling the impact of long-term underpayment from government programs,” Brown said. “Medicare and Medicaid reimburse well below the actual cost of care, and when more patients fall into those programs, it puts real pressure on hospitals to maintain services. These policies have serious consequences for access, especially in rural communities.”

The event was  supported in part by Vincennes PBS and Blazer 91.1 WVUB.  Be watching for a video of the full program on the Vincennes PBS YouTube channel.
