The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a new scam targeting families of recently jailed individuals.

Officials say callers are contacting relatives and claiming that if they transfer money, their loved one will be released from jail. The sheriff’s office stresses that this is never how releases work.

Bond must be posted in person at the jail, paid in cash, and must match the exact bond amount plus five dollars. No one from the jail will ever call asking for money to be sent electronically.

Anyone with questions can contact the jail division at 812-882-7660, option 2.
