The National Weather Service confirmed Monday that it was an EF-1 tornado that struck the city of Linton on Sunday night.

The tornado moved through the downtown area, damaging multiple buildings. Ten people were displaced, and one person was taken to the hospital.

National Weather Service teams were in Linton Monday to assess the damage. Officials say the tornado track ran from Northwest Fourth Street to Northeast Twelfth Street, with the most significant damage concentrated in the downtown area.

Cleanup continues as recovery efforts are expected to take several weeks.

In response, Linton Mayor John Preble issued a local disaster emergency declaration on Monday. The declaration allows the city to use all available resources, implement emergency measures to protect public safety, and coordinate response and recovery efforts with Greene County, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, state and federal agencies, and nonprofit organizations, including the American Red Cross.

Meanwhile, Indiana 211 is accepting storm damage reports from Greene County residents related to the December 28 storm. State officials say the reports will help determine damage estimates and guide next steps. Residents in other counties are advised to contact their local emergency management agencies.
