The Knox County Sheriff’s Office says they are investigating a case involving counterfeit money used at a Knox County business.

In a social media post the department posted pictures of fake one-dollar bills designed to look real at a quick glance, but several details stand out.

Instead of reading “The United States of America,” the bill says “The United States of Origami.”It also includes the phrase “This is not legal tender,” printed directly on the front.

The bill lists a serial number that appears identical in multiple places, includes the word “Replica,” and shows a series year of 2021, which does not match legitimate U.S. one-dollar bills.

On the back, the bill replaces “In God We Trust” with “In Origami We Trust”.

The sheriff’s office is reminding store owners and employees to carefully examine paper currency during transactions, especially during busy times.

Anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
