The Harmony Society will mark 100 years at the Ellis Mansion this Saturday in Vincennes.
The private social club acquired the mansion in the mid-1920s after merging with the Pastime Club, preserving one of the city’s oldest historic homes as its longtime clubhouse. The organization itself dates back to July 8, 1888, when German immigrants formed the society as a social and cultural organization.
Current president John Frenz said preserving the Ellis Mansion has remained a priority for generations of members. Recent work has included rebuilding the foundation, with additional exterior stone restoration planned.
The Harmony Society has also maintained a long record of community involvement. The organization is one of the original sponsors of the Vincennes Cub League and continues to support scholarships, fundraisers, and other local initiatives.
The Roaring Twenties–themed anniversary celebration will run from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday and is open to the public.
