An area county fair is calling it quits. In a social media post today, officials with the Daviess County Fair announced the organization is ending operations after 75 years.
The board says the decision followed months of discussion about whether the fair could continue in a responsible way. Officials cite ongoing challenges, including fewer volunteers, declining community involvement, and difficulty securing carnival operators.
They also point to rising criticism and complaints, saying those concerns often came without enough people willing to help or support the fair.
The Daviess County Fair has relied on volunteers and community participation since it began. Board members say those resources continued to shrink in recent years, making it harder to operate the event safely and sustainably.
The organization says any remaining funds will be donated to local groups and charities, with final decisions made by the board.
Officials say the decision is final and comments on the announcement have been turned off. They add the fair’s history remains an important part of Daviess County’s past.
The fair, usually held in early June, was often the first county fair of the season in the region.
The cancellation does not affect the Daviess County 4-H Show, which will continue as planned in July at the 4-H grounds at East Side Park in Washington.
