The Vincennes Community School Corporation has held the first required public hearing on a possible construction and renovation project planned for 2026.
The hearing took place at Monday’s regular school board meeting.
The proposal involves repairs and upgrades at Lincoln High School, Clark Middle School, and other school corporation buildings used for administration and support services. School officials say the work would address long-term facility needs.
If the project moves forward, bids would be taken this winter into early spring, with construction potentially starting in the summer of 2026.
To pay for the improvements, the school corporation could issue bonds or use lease financing. The total borrowing would not exceed sixteen-point-two-three million dollars, with repayment spread over roughly twenty years. That plan would raise the district’s debt service tax rate starting in 2027.
A second public hearing is scheduled for the February second school board meeting. Residents also have thirty days to file a petition requesting a remonstrance process.
Also at Monday’s school board meeting, the board reorganized for 2026 electing Karla Smith as President she succeeds Pat Hutchison who was the 2025 President. Meanwhile, Lynne Bobe was voted in as Vice President, Aaron Bauer as Secretary and Kolby Kerzan as Treasurer.
