Details have been released about a police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle in which shots were fired by officers last week in Sullivan County.

The Sullivan County Sheriff requested State Police investigate the incident since it involved one of the sheriff’s deputies. According to Indiana State Police, deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the Hymera area around 1:00 p.m. on January 16th.

A deputy located the vehicle traveling west on State Road 48 and followed it to County Road 200 East near Shelburn. Police say the vehicle stopped and attempted to back up, at which point the deputy fired a shot toward it. The vehicle continued into a wooded area, where it came to a stop.

Investigators say the driver ran from the vehicle and then took a second vehicle before being captured a short time later. The driver was identified as 31-year-old Marci D. Coleman of Jasonville. She was taken into custody on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement and theft.

The investigation remains ongoing. A completed report will be forwarded to the Sullivan County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
