A large housing development in Vincennes is getting closer to its first move-ins.
Construction is continuing at the Bierhaus Flats apartment complex on Bierhaus Boulevard. Developers say the first of five buildings is now under roof and in the framing stage.
The first 24 market-rate apartments are expected to open in June. Those units will include one-, two-, and three-bedroom layouts. Pre-leasing is expected to begin in February.
Knox County Indiana Economic Development CEO Chris Pfaff says the project adds much-needed housing to support workforce growth and provides options for a range of residents, including young professionals and families.
When complete, the development will include 240 apartments. Developers expect to bring new units online in phases, with about 24 apartments opening roughly every month through the summer and fall. The full project is scheduled for completion in early 2027.
Several local companies are involved in the construction. Kerns Excavating is handling site work, while Niehaus Lumber is supplying framing materials, cabinets, and other products. Local framers and construction crews are also part of the project.
The apartments were designed by Simplified Developments, a family-owned company based in Gibson County. Construction is being handled by its sister company, Elite Construction Services, which has completed housing projects in Gibson, Vanderburgh, and Daviess counties.
The project received city-approved tax increment financing for infrastructure and a tax abatement.
