Roughly 300 Indiana National Guard soldiers and airmen were activated to assist state agencies during recent winter weather conditions.
As part of that response, the Guard deployed 24 highway assistance teams across central and southern Indiana. The teams focused on helping drivers affected by snow and ice along major roadways.
Guard members assisted 87 vehicles and helped transport 16 stranded motorists to safety. Officials report there were no serious injuries involving Guard personnel during the operation.
The Indiana National Guard has now ended its winter weather mission as conditions across the region continue to improve.
