The Mayor of Lawrenceville is praising city employees for their work during this week’s winter storm and its aftermath.

In a message released by the city, Mayor David Courtney thanked crews for working through difficult conditions over several days. He says the Street Department cleared a near-record snowfall by operating around the clock, resulting in improved road conditions across the city.

At the same time, the Utilities Department responded to multiple water main breaks along Lexington and Porter Avenues. The mayor says crews addressed those issues despite fatigue, aging infrastructure, and sub-zero temperatures, with help from employees in other departments.

The mayor also addressed ongoing infrastructure matters, saying the city is working with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to resolve notices of violation. He says progress is being made on sanitary sewer overflows, the sewer plant, and water system compliance.

In a social media message,  Mayor Courtney affirmed confidence in city staff and encouraged residents to contact City Hall if assistance is needed.
