A 21-year-old man from Washington remains jailed following a shooting investigation that resulted in a death.
Police were called Saturday, February 7, at approximately 3:33 p.m. to the area of Southwest 1st Street and Dewey Avenue after reports of multiple shots fired.
Officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was identified as 51-year-old Phillip Waggoner and was later pronounced dead.
Police said the suspect was detained at the scene and identified as 21-year-old Ashton Baxter of Washington.
Baxter has been arrested on charges of murder and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Agencies assisting at the scene included the Washington Police Department, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, Washington City Fire, DCH EMS, the Daviess County Prosecutor’s Office, the Daviess County Coroner’s Office, and Daviess County Central Dispatch.
