The May 5 primary election ballot is now set in Knox County.
Republican voters will see several contested local races, including a four-candidate primary for sheriff. There are also GOP contests for county assessor, recorder, county commissioner District 1, and county council districts 1, 3, and 4. Republicans also have contested races in House District 45 and Senate District 39. Incumbents are running unopposed in House District 45 and U-S Congress in District 8.
Knox County Republican Party Chairman David Shelton who is also serving as the current Knox County Clerk, says no candidate challenges were filed. He says although some Democratic candidates could have been challenged based on past voting history, the party chose to let voters decide because it has been several years since a Democrat appeared on the local ballot and even longer since there has been a contested Democratic race locally.
On the Democratic ticket, there are no contested local races. One Democrat is running for Knox County Sheriff and one for Knox County Recorder. Democrats also have one candidate each for House Districts 45 and 64 and State Senate District 39. Four Democrats are running in the 8th Congressional District primary.
The election is May 5.
