The Vincennes University Board of Trustees has approved awarding an honorary doctorate to Indianapolis youth advocate Dennis Bland.
Trustees voted during a meeting Feb. 24 at the Monroe Convention Center in Bloomington to confer an Honorary Doctorate of Education on Bland.
Bland is president of the Center for Leadership Development in Indianapolis. According to Vincennes University, he has led the organization for more than two decades.
The university says the Center for Leadership Development works with young people on college, career, and leadership preparation.
Bland is scheduled to receive the honorary degree during Vincennes University’s Spring Commencement on May 2 at the P.E. Complex on the Vincennes campus.
During the same meeting, the Board of Trustees approved updates to the university’s post-tenure review policy to comply with House Enrolled Act 1001-2025.
Trustees also accepted a grant from the Public Media Company, acting on behalf of the Public Media Bridge Fund, to support WVUB-FM.
The board also approved removing eight inactive degree or certificate programs in Emergency Medical Services/Paramedic, Education, Supply Chain and Logistics, and Hotel and Motel Management.
In addition, trustees approved two facility improvement projects: an $890,000 contract with Cici Boiler Rooms Inc. of Evansville for steam plant renovation equipment, and a $913,000 mechanical construction contract with Mehringer Plumbing and Heating of Jasper for HVAC renovations in the Homeland Security Building.
