The Washington Police Department is investigating multiple reports involving checks that may have been taken after being mailed.
According to police, several complaints have been received in which mailed checks were later altered. Investigators say, in some cases, the name of the intended recipient was changed. In other instances, the amount of the check was increased.
Authorities say it is not yet clear where the suspected thefts are occurring.
The cases remain under investigation.
