Indiana is awarding nearly one-and-a-half million dollars for lake and stream improvement projects across the state.

Governor Mike Braun and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources say $1,484,960 in grants will fund 48 projects in 17 counties through the Lake and River Enhancement program.

More than one million dollars will support sediment and logjam removal in 11 counties. That includes a $90,000 project at West Boggs Lake in Daviess County and a $75,000 project at Sullivan Lake.

Another $444,000 will go toward controlling invasive aquatic plants across multiple waterbodies, including nearly $14,000 for a project at New Lake in Gibson County.

The program is funded through fees paid by boat owners when registering watercraft. Local sponsors are required to cover at least 20 percent of project costs.

State officials say the projects are intended to improve access, water conditions, and long-term maintenance of Indiana’s waterways.
