Vincennes University lost to Northwest Florida State 76-62 in the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.
The game was played March 24 at Hutchinson Sports Arena in Kansas in the round of 16. Vincennes entered the tournament as the number six seed, while Northwest Florida State was seeded eleventh.
Northwest Florida State was led by Damarion Vann-Kelly, who scored 30 points. His performance included a 17-5 run that erased a 10-point deficit and gave the Raiders control of the game.
Dayton Williams led Vincennes with 27 points and nine rebounds. Jalen Calloway added 17 points.
The loss eliminates Vincennes from the tournament.
The game also marked the end of an era on the radio. The broadcast on WVUB was the final call for longtime Trailblazers announcer Dave Hunter, who spent decades covering Vincennes basketball.
Hunter reflected on his career during the postgame broadcast.
“There’s no possible way in the time I’ve got left on the air to name and thank everybody who has been such an important part of my 54-year broadcasting career… 44 years with the Trailblazers… it’s just been a total joy in my life.”
He also addressed why he remained in Vincennes throughout his career.
“Someone’s asked me in the past why didn’t you try to go on and move to a higher level of play? This is where I want to be with the Blazers, with my family… It’s been a great, great, great ride.”
