The Downtown Vincennes Association is planning updates to First Friday Art Walks and the Summer on Main festival.

Executive Director Ellen Harper told the Vincennes Board of Public Works and Safety that the organization plans to close the 400 block of Main Street during First Friday Art Walks from April through November.

Harper said she has been working with local art galleries and suggested closing the street from 4 to 9 p.m. during the events to build on the existing format.

She said the organization plans to add vendors and live music, with Emily and Tony Hinkle scheduled to perform at the first event on April 3.

“We’ve got a stained glass vendor, and I want quality vendors. We’re charging $20 to set up in the street and trying to pull traffic through the 300, 400 and 500 blocks. We’re going to start this slowly and may add a food truck depending on crowds,” Harper said.

The Board approved the street closure request for the First Friday events.

Harper also said the Summer on Main festival is scheduled for Friday, June 26.

She said the date was adjusted as planning continues alongside the city’s 250th activities.

The event will run from 6 to 10 p.m., with Main Street closed, and will span from Second Street to Sixth Street.

“So from Second to Sixth on Main, we’re planning a car show and working with Hoosier Cruisers, along with a group of bikers with motorcycles. We’ll also have food vendors, and Buck Rogers Clark is already booked for the event,” Harper said.

The Board also approved plans for the Summer on Main event as presented.
