Changes are being proposed for a local parish in Vincennes.

St. Francis Xavier Parish has released a long-range plan focused on updates near St. Vincent’s Church, including new construction and expanded facilities.

The plan was presented on March 22nd.

Those plans call for  work along Hart Street and Richard Bauer Drive. The proposal includes a new entrance drive, additional parking, and pedestrian access through the site. A new church would be built on higher ground, with access designed to accommodate those with limited mobility.

Design plans also include a gathering space, known as a narthex, along with expanded parish offices. Future phases outline space for Catholic school facilities on the southeast portion of the property.

Phase one would include infrastructure work such as the new drive, parking areas, and lower-level meeting rooms. Plans also show a new church space with room for future expansion. Existing elements, including stained glass and a pipe organ, are expected to be incorporated into the new design.

Phase two would focus on construction of a parish hall further south on the site.

Church leaders say the project remains in early stages. Next steps include working with the Diocese, completing a financial study, and developing detailed designs.

Initial estimates place phase one costs between 15 and 20 million dollars. No timeline for construction has been set.
