NOAA Weather Radio Planned Outage

A planned outage of NOAA Weather Radio is now underway in Central Indiana as the National Weather Service upgrades its AWIPS computer system. The outage began Monday, April 28, and is expected to continue through at least Wednesday, April 30.

During this time, all NOAA Weather Radio transmitters serving Central Indiana will be offline. The upgrade is part of a nationwide rotation and will proceed as scheduled, even if severe weather occurs.

The outage affects the following transmitters:

  • Indianapolis (KEC-74, 162.550 MHz)

  • Bloomington (WXM-78, 162.450 MHz)

  • Putnamville (WXK-72, 162.400 MHz)

  • Monticello (WXK-74, 162.475 MHz)

  • Georgia (WWG-72, 162.500 MHz)

  • Edwardsport (WWG-83, 162.425 MHz)

  • Newport (KZZ-27, 162.425 MHz)

  • Seymour (WWG-73, 162.525 MHz)

  • Muncie (KJY-93, 162.425 MHz)

Residents are encouraged to use alternative alert systems, including the Knox County CodeRED  notification service as well as Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and local media for weather warnings during the outage.
