FROM INDIANA PUBLIC BROADCASTING

Indiana U.S. Senator Todd Young says more mental health professionals are needed in schools to support student well-being and academic success.

He’s backing a bipartisan bill that would help cover the cost of graduate programs for future school psychologists, counselors, and social workers.

Young says Indiana is falling short of expert recommendations.

The National Association of School Psychologists recommends one per 500 students.

Young says even in a time of tight federal budgets, these services are essential.

The bill has support in both the U.S. Senate and House.
