The Indiana State Police Jasper Post took to social media on Tuesday to highlight the importance of allowing troopers to use their police vehicles while off duty—sharing a recent case as an example.
According to the post, Senior Trooper Mitchel Wier was off duty and driving his state-issued vehicle when he overheard a dispatch alert about a missing 3-year-old in Washington. Police and community members had already begun the search when Wier, who was in the area, joined the effort.
After about 15 minutes of searching, he located the child and safely reunited him with his mother.
The Jasper Post emphasized this case as a reminder that troopers may be off duty, but they’re never off watch.
