The Indiana Department of Education has released results from the 2025 ILEARN assessment, showing continued growth in math proficiency across all grade levels statewide, while English/Language Arts (ELA) scores remained mostly flat.
Statewide, 42.1 percent of students were proficient in math and 40.6 percent were proficient in ELA. Since 2021, math scores have increased by as much as 6.7 percentage points, with eighth grade showing the strongest improvement. ELA growth was more modest, with some middle school grades showing declines.
Student subgroups, including Black, Hispanic, special education, and low-income students, also posted gains in both ELA and math.
Looking ahead, the state will roll out a redesigned ILEARN system in the 2025-2026 school year. The new format will include “Checkpoints” throughout the year, giving educators access to real-time data on student progress and areas needing support.
