Federal Sentences in Drug Conspiracy

Several Terre Haute residents were among those sentenced in a major drug trafficking operation.

Twenty-three people received federal prison terms for their roles in a conspiracy that moved methamphetamine and cocaine from the Southwest border into Indiana between 2020 and 2022.

Dillon Smith of Terre Haute was sentenced to over 17 years. Juliann Magallanez received 15 years, and John Whiffing was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Federal investigators say the drugs were distributed from Indianapolis to rural areas like Terre Haute. The operation also involved laundering millions of dollars in drug proceeds.

Authorities seized over 80 pounds of meth, fentanyl pills, and firearms
