Street work continues in Bicknell as improvements move forward on East 4th Street and South Main Street.

According to Mayor Thomas Estabrook’s social media page, base rock is being laid from Freelandville heading east, with additional rock spread in the Dant Boulevard area. Crews are also wrapping up the removal of unsuitable subsoil near Thomas Street. Once rock is installed along the entire stretch, curbing and gutter work will follow.

The mayor says curb installation is already complete on South Main, with new driveway approaches now being poured. Grade work is underway for sidewalks.

Meanwhile, demolition and cleanup of the former D&B gas station property are expected to begin next week. The city acquired the property earlier this month following environmental testing. The work will include removing buildings, concrete, and later in August, underground fuel tanks. Estabrook gave thanks to the Knox County Redevelopment Commission which is covering cleanup costs and also funded half of the match needed for the Community Crossings application that resulted in the work on East 4th and South Main.
