The Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the Vincennes Police Department and Indiana State Police will increase impaired driving enforcement from August 16 through August 30 as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

The effort, led by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and coordinated locally through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, aims to prevent crashes and save lives.

“Our top priority is keeping our roads and our community safe,” said VPD Lt. Kern. “Let’s make this a partnership between law enforcement and drivers: Help us protect the community and put an end to this dangerous behavior.”

According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System, nearly 14 percent of all traffic fatalities in Indiana last year involved alcohol, and more than 35 percent involved drug impairment.

Officials urge drivers to make a transportation plan before drinking, arrange for a designated driver, or use a taxi or rideshare service. If you see a suspected impaired driver, pull over safely and report it to local law enforcement.
