The victim of a fatal fire in southern Illinois has been identified.
Authorities say it was 83-year-old Audrey Houser who died in the blaze this past Saturday at a home in the 1600 block of South Pickford Street in Robinson.
Responders reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the residence as they arrived. Firefighters attempted to enter the structure after being told someone may still be inside, but intense heat forced them back. Once conditions allowed, crews located Houser.
The Robinson Fire Protection District is working with the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office to determine what caused the fire.
