Elijah Hooker, 28, of Bridgeport, Illinois, has been charged with First Degree Murder in Lawrence County. The charge was filed Monday following a review of the investigation by Illinois State Police.
Hooker had initially been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in connection with a shooting death reported last week.
Illinois State Police were called to a residence in the 700 block of Washington Street on January 29 at the request of the Bridgeport Police Department. Officers found 37-year-old Omni Hooker deceased inside the home with a fatal gunshot wound. Elijah Hooker was taken into custody at the scene.
After investigators presented their findings to the Lawrence County State’s Attorney’s Office, a First Degree Murder charge was approved. Hooker remains held at the Lawrence County Jail.
