Washington Police have released more details concerning a police chase that ended in Petersburg this past weekend.
The case began in January, when Washington Police, a DEA Task Force, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, and Indiana State Police conducted a drug investigation in Daviess County. Authorities say that investigation led to the seizure of about four pounds of crystal methamphetamine and a Level 2 felony warrant for dealing methamphetamine for 42-year-old Eric Logston of Washington.
On February 7th, officers attempted to arrest Logston outside a hotel in Washington. Police say as an officer was stepping out of his patrol car, Logston drove toward the vehicle, striking and disabling it.
Officers from multiple agencies pursued Logston into Pike County, with help from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and Petersburg Police. The chase continued through Petersburg and ended in a business parking lot, where police say Logston struck a Petersburg Police vehicle before officers blocked him in.
Investigators say Logston refused commands, acted aggressively, and ingested suspected methamphetamine. Officers used less-lethal force to remove him from the vehicle and administered Narcan and first aid before he was taken to a hospital.
Police say about 41 grams of additional methamphetamine and a large amount of cash were recovered at the scene.
Logston now faces additional charges, including dealing methamphetamine, resisting law enforcement, attempted battery against a public safety official, intimidation, and criminal mischief. After being released from the hospital, he was taken into custody without further incident.
