A safe prom demonstration in Pike County gave students a firsthand look at the consequences of impaired driving.

On Tuesday, Indiana State Police and the Pike County Sheriff’s Office partnered to stage a mock operating-while-intoxicated crash.

Troopers and deputies walked students through a realistic crash scene, including a full investigation that led to a simulated arrest, showing the legal consequences of driving under the influence.

Emergency responders also demonstrated how agencies work together in a serious crash. The Patoka Township Fire Department handled the response and assisted victims, while Air Evac provided a demonstration of air medical transport. Schnell’s Towing cleared the vehicles, and state police used drone technology to reconstruct the crash.

Officials say the goal was to show students both the immediate dangers and the long-term consequences of impaired driving.

The demonstration also highlighted how multiple agencies respond in real emergencies and reinforced the message to avoid driving under the influence.
